Tuesday, Sofia

So, we've spent the last two days at the Roman Orphanage.

That is, the orphanage that is in the town called "Roman": not an orphanage that is Roman.

It was awesome. We got to spend a lot of time with the orphans and sort of assess their needs. The orphanage is in pretty poor shape. The students are undereducated and poorly prepared for the real world after they are kicked out of the orphanage at 21 or so. Shawn and Natalie have a heart for these problems and are praying about moving here in a few years and working to start a program that will equip the orphans for life after the orphanage. Right now, many of them are thrown into Sofia and given a job with no prior experience. Consequently, many of them end up jobless and turn into beggars because they have no work ethic.

We're back in Sofia, now, for our last day of Bulgaria. Tomorrow Shawn and I are meeting with Paul Ridgeway. He's a missionary here who has a music ministry as well as an orphan ministry. He apparently has an awesome family, too, that is very involved. So, it'll be cool to know him. Then, we get some rest and head home at 5:00a.m. on Thursday.

Prayer Requests:

~Guidance for Shawn and Natalie regarding their plans to work with the orphans.
~Save travels home. After we get off of the plane, I'm driving from Chicago to Springfield. So, pray for me to have stamina. I know I won't fall asleep, but it will be very annoying.
~Pray for my future plans regarding Bulgaria. I'm not entirely sure where God's leading me after this. But, He always reveals oppurtunities that bless me and honor Him.

Saturday, Blagoevgrad

I've really been struggling this week.

It's really hard being a missionary. I have been assuming that, since I was doing God's work full time, I could slack off on my quiet time. It made sense, anyway. But, I started really struggling with a lot of things.

So, the praise goes to God. After I started spending more time with Him again worshiping and studying the Word, everything healed right up.

So, continue to pray for us. I get to lead worship in Bulgarian tomorrow morning for a church here. Then, we're off to the orphanage north of Sofia. Then, we're home.

Prayer requests:

~Me leading worship tomorrow for a traditional, Bulgarian congregation.

~Safe travels to Sofia and then the orphanage.

~God to use us to help minister to the orphans.

Tuesday, Blagoevgrad

We've arrived in Blagoevgrad.

It was only after a 6 hour train ride from Sofia: not fun.

This week we're hanging out with the youth of the city and playing baseball and basketball with them. We're also doing things for the local Baptist church such as house visits and things not known yet.

After this we go to an orphanage up north of Sofia and then come home.

Here are some pictures:

Kaylee is the crazy one on our team.

Natalie and Shawn are crazy too: actually, they're married. So, they are crazier when combined.

This is my Bulgarian class. We had a total of seven students (though they didn't every show up all at once). They gave good feed back at the end of the week.

After the class, I got to hang out with some of the Bulgarian teens/young men and check out Stara Zagora.

I also got attacked by two penguins.

And, I saw this sign in Plovdiv. I like how they drew the triangle around the ball to make it fit.

Prayer requests:

~Pray for the youth as we hang out with them and hopefully share the gospel with them at the sports camp.
~Pray for the orphanage that we will visit in a few days.
~Pray for our team. We're all either sick, hot, tired, or just struggling in general.
~Pray for us as we go a couple of days without running water.

Sunday, Sofia

Ok. So, Iofficially revoke any promises I may have made about updating with pictures. The internet access in this country is a joke. A very bad one.\In another news, we got to go to church at the Sofia Baptist church this morning. It was awesome. I also am very close to "Unda": the Bulgarian "Starbucks. So, I'm excited about that.

I was in Plovdiv yesterday. It was beautiful. I hope that I can do some studying and ministry there some day. Ten again, I've yet to see Blagoevgrad: home of the University in Bulgaria.

Forgive me for the spelling. The keyboard is sticky and the computer is slow.

Prayer requests:

Safe travels to Blagoevgrad

~Pray that God has a lot of things for us to do i Blagoevgrad. It's still gray what we'll be doing there.

~Pray for the Baptist church in Blagoevgrad; they will be hosting us.
